Homepage Hero

Sub-Page Hero

The sub-page hero is not a custom block. Instead, it uses the built-in WordPress block called Cover which has many style options. For ease of use, I styled a sample of the Cover to match the designs and saved it as a block pattern (and named it Masthead – Cover). In WordPress, block patterns are a collection of one or more blocks that are saved for re-use on other pages.

Sub-Page Hero (Basic)

The basic sub-page hero is also not a custom block. Because it doesn’t require an image, it can be built using columns and simple block elements. For ease of use, I styled a sample of this approach to match the designs and saved it as a block pattern (and named it Masthead – Basic).

Profile Switcher

If you wish to open a page with a specific profile active: First append ?profile= to the end of the page URL. Next, append the profile name, but replace all spaces with dashes.

For example, https://live-millercenter.pantheonsite.io/component-list/?profile=a-mentor will open a new browser window with the Mentor profile already active.

Relatedly, if you wish to scroll down to a section of page, you must define an anchor for the section and then append #your-anchor-name to the end of the page URL.

Thus, https://live-millercenter.pantheonsite.io/component-list/?profile=a-mentor#Profile-Switcher will open a new browser window with the Mentor profile open and scroll down to the profile switcher section.

Eyebrow

The eyebrow is a minor component/block to be used when you require this style of text within areas of the page that are not already part of a custom component. For example, when you wish to place an eyebrow above a standard Heading block within the block editor.

Of note, when you are not using the block editor, but are instead within the classic rich-text editor, an Eyebrow option is available under the Formats dropdown field.

Related Posts

The related posts component/block displays other posts (as a stacked list of cards) which have been tagged with the same taxonomy value. It is only intended to be used on a blog post detail page and placed as a widget within the primary sidebar.

Media Mentions

When you wish to create a post, whose only purpose is to link to another site that mentions the Miller Center, you can use the Link post format option while creating the post. When you do so, an External News Source URL field will appear. Use this field to enter in the URL of the external site that mentions Miller Center. Then, whenever this post appears within a news component or your internal search results, it will link directly to the external URL.
